Devon Removals

Britannia Lanes has been moving Devon residents from our Exeter depot for more than 50 years. Whether you are leaving Exeter for somewhere new, coming into Devon from anywhere in the UK, or relocating locally across the county, our own crews handle it from the first box to the last. Removal services in Devon, built on local knowledge

Devon covers a lot of ground, and moving within it takes genuine familiarity with the territory. The M5 corridor into Exeter moves differently on a Friday afternoon in August than it does on a Tuesday in March. North Devon, around Barnstaple and Bideford, means longer drives on A-roads with no motorway shortcut. Dartmoor edges bring their own access questions: lanes that look fine on a map, properties at the end of tracks that rule out an 18-tonne truck, and the occasional shuttle van job where smaller is the only option. Our crews know all of it. They are out across Devon every week, not learning the roads on your move day.

From our purpose-built removals and storage facility at Marsh Barton in Exeter, we cover the whole of Devon, including Plymouth, Tavistock and Ivybridge, and more. Your move might be a few streets across Exeter, a long-distance relocation to Scotland, or a container bound for New Zealand. As long as it starts or finishes in Devon, Cornwall or Somerset, we can help.

WHY BRITANNIA LANES

Trusted
Devon removal specialists

Most people move house a handful of times in their lives. We have been doing it for Devon residents for more than 50 years, and the same family that started the firm still runs it today.

There are two halves to the name, and both carry weight. Lanes is the family business, now in its third generation: local crews, local knowledge, a name people across Devon and Cornwall have relied on for half a century. Britannia is the national membership the family joined years ago, a network of vetted removal firms held to one shared standard, with trained members and support right across the UK. When you choose Britannia Lanes, your move is carried out by a local family who answer for their own work, backed by a national body that holds them to that standard. That combination is what customers are choosing. It is why the reviews say what they do.

We used Britannia Lanes to help move my Mum from her home of 47 years to new accommodation and I have to say that the service was excellent. Hayden and Leighton were the two chaps assigned to us and they were super quick and efficient. They were also incredibly strong moving whole filing cabinets without even removing the drawers and everything done with care and precision. This all coupled with a friendly and helpful approach. Couldn't fault them.

The removal of furniture and all other items did not go as smoothly as I’d hoped.. the two men that arrived with the lorry constantly grumbled about the job and my son helped a great deal as we needed everything to get loaded so we could begin the long drive from Somerset to Norfolk.. it took them four and a half hours to pack everything and by the end the older man was moaning that he needed to have his lunch and was swearing to that effect.. not very professional.
The next day when they delivered it was a completely different story.. they were helpful and careful..they put all the garden machinery etc very thoughtfully in the shed and asked exactly where I wanted my furniture, offering alternative ideas for the best use of space.. The lorry was unpacked and everything in the house and shed in two hours flat . In the end I was very happy with the service I received from Britannia Lanes Removal service with reservations relating to the moaning and swearing on a very stressful moving day.
It was not the moving experience I was promised but all ended well.

A professional outfit from start to finish.
Good advice from the estimater and staff in the office.
Our move from Newton Abbot Devon to Ramsgate, Kent. Callum and his mate loaded us up on Monday and the lorry was waiting at our new home at 9.30 the next morning.
Callum again did above and beyond to make the move easy.
Good communication all the way through and a first class service...

Our Devon removal service areas

We cover Devon from coast to coast, moor to estuary. Our crews are out across the county every week, so wherever your move starts or finishes, the road there is one we have been down before.

Exeter and the M5 corridor

Exeter is our home in Devon, and it is where most moves in the county begin or end. We cover the city in full, plus the towns along the M5: Tiverton, Cullompton, Honiton, and the Exe estuary towns of Exmouth, Dawlish and Teignmouth.

Plymouth, Tavistock and the South Hams

Plymouth is Devon’s largest city and a regular part of our week. We also cover Tavistock, Ivybridge, Newton Abbot, Totnes, and the South Hams, where access to rural properties can call for careful planning ahead of moving day.

North Devon and Dartmoor

Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe in the north, Okehampton and the Dartmoor edges in the centre. Longer drives, narrower approaches in places, and first-hand knowledge of both.

Torbay and the English Riviera

Torquay, Paignton and the surrounding area. Popular with buyers relocating into Devon, and a steady part of our south coast work.

Devon Removals FAQs

For most moves, six to eight weeks gives us the best chance of securing your preferred date. Summer is the busiest period across the county, and Exeter and Plymouth in particular fill up fast from June onwards. The earlier you arrange a survey to get your formal quote, the more choice you have on dates.
Yes. We cover all of Devon: Exeter, Plymouth, Tavistock, Ivybridge, the Torbay towns, north Devon around Barnstaple and Bideford, the Exe estuary, and rural properties across the county. If access is restricted, such as a track that will not take a large vehicle, we plan for a shuttle van in advance. It is one of the things a survey is for.
Yes. Long-distance moves to or from Devon are a regular part of what we do. Our own crews travel nationwide, including Scotland and Wales. One end of the move must start or finish in Cornwall, Devon or Somerset. The other end can be anywhere in the UK. You can get an instant guide price online, then arrange a survey for a fixed quote.
A surveyor visits your home in person, or carries out a video survey at a time that suits you. You can also choose to do a video survey on your own time on your phone. Your removal surveyor will walk through with you what you are moving, note anything that needs specialist handling, check access at both ends if they can, and use all of it to give you a formal, fixed quote.
Yes. Container storage is available from our Exeter facility. If your completion date moves, if there is a gap between leaving one property and getting into the next, or if you need somewhere to store furniture during a renovation, we can hold your belongings securely until you are ready.
Yes. We handle international removals to more than 20,000 destinations from Devon, with Australia, New Zealand, the USA, South Africa and the UAE among the most common. Our team manage the entire journey for you. You receive updates when your consignment departs port and when it arrives.

Not more care of clearly marked boxes
The guys worked hard. It bit more care on the destination of clearly marked boxes, would have saved us taking boxes up to bedrooms and then having to struggle bringing boxes marked for lounge etc down
